Geckos ＠高槻茨木校
We hope you all enjoyed the winter vacation. The Geckos all grew so much over the holidays, we hardly recognised them!
みなさん楽しい冬休みを過ごせましたか？
To begin the New Year, the Geckos tried their hand at kakizome, "the first writing of the year", and wrote the first letter of their first names. In 2012, we did a lot of painting with different sized brushes, sponges and other things, but this was the first time for the children to use not only liquid ink with a brush to write something specific, but also traditional washi paper.
新年ということで、Geckosでは墨・筆・和紙を使って、書き初めに挑戦しました。
Over the course of several days we practiced identifying and tracing the letters in circle time with both our fingers and marker pens in preparation.
Nurseryの頃からずっとアルファベットやフォニックスを学んできたGeckosの子どもたち。今回書いた文字は名前の一番初めのアルファベットです。さすが毎日サークルタイムで見ている自分の名前だけあって、みんな迷わず自分の名前のイニシャルを見つける事ができました。そのあとはカードの文字を人差し指でなぞります。線から指がはみ出ないように集中してゆっくりなぞりました。
After donning their smocks, the first thing to do was to take a good look at the ink itself. In groups of two at a time, the children examined the ink, noting the colour and smell. Then they chose the card with the first letter of their name and placed it next to the washi paper.
スモッグを着て、いよいよ墨汁をもらいます。墨は何色かな？どんな匂いかな？みんな初めての墨汁に興味津々です。自分の名前のカードを和紙の横に置いて、準備はOK！墨をつけた筆で大きくイニシャルを書きます。
The Geckos actually trace their names everyday on their colouring and worksheets, and the letters are usually quite small. This time, however, the challenge was to write one BIG letter on a BIG piece of paper using runny ink and a large brush - not an easy task at all. The washi paper was quite slippery as well, so there was the added challenge of keeping the paper still as they wrote. Concentrating hard, holding the paper still with one hand, glancing at the large alphabet card to make sure they were writing correctly, the Geckos manouvered the brush to successfully write the first letter of their names!!
クレヨンで普通の紙に書くのとは違い、長く太い筆で薄い和紙に文字を書くという作業は簡単ではありません。和紙が動きそうになる中、みんなしっかり片方の手で紙をおさえ、カードをよく見てイニシャルを書くことができました。
