Lions @

Africa

The children in Lions KB class were learning about families in Africa. The children were asked to think what the houses in African looked like. Some children said Bricks or wood. Then the children were given different materials to try to build a house.

In one group the children worked together using milk cartons.

In another group the children used sand to build a house. The children found this a little hard but they tried their best and were able to do it.

The group that used milk cartons were able to finish quickly and were working well as a team.

The lego group took a little longer but they were able to build a nice solid structure.

This was the final Milk carton house. The children were really proud of themselves.

The children also used foam blocks. The children placed blocks in the middle for furniture.

When the children reviewed the houses the said it was impossible to build a house out of sand. They were shocked to know that there are some people in Africa that live in houses made of sand. So the children decided that they would like to write a letter to a child in Africa. The children are so happy that they can talk to someone in another country and find out how they live.

Zebras @

Worked so hard to take care of our tomato plants
Zebra class worked so hard to take care of our tomato plants. They are so big!

Some of the plants are even taller than the children.

Wow! I can see so many red ones. They look delicious!

We took turns picking them all. We had so many to choose from.

We were careful not to choose the green ones. We took the big round red ones.

Look! They look so ripe. We had a great time eating them with our school lunch too!

Pandas @

KA Dolphins and Pandas make Oobleck!

Sometimes, the Pandas and Dolphins like to get together for activities. We read Dr. Suess's book, Bartholomew and the Oobleck, and pretended to be the magicians from the book and make our own oobleck!
題名は“Bartholomew and the Oobleck”です。

After choosing our own groups, Brent, Liz and Shiori showed us how to mix our magic ingredients together (cornstarch, water and food coloring) and make the oobleck.

The oobleck was a little difficult to stir with craft sticks, but we discovered that using our hands made it much easier. We got very messy, and so did the classroom.

The oobleck was very strange. It looked like it was wet, but when we touched it, it felt hard. We could make a ball using our hands, but when we tried to give it to a friend, it melted!

The Dolphins and Pandas had a great time playing with the oobleck, and we are looking forward to doing lots more activities together!

Dolphins @

Fun With Shadows!

KA Dolphins, and KA Pandas, got together to learn about shadows and shade. But to learn about shadows, we first had to learn about the sun!

First, we read a book with many cool pictures of the sun, to help better understand why we are going to go outside to trace shadows. Children asked many questions and loved the pictures!

Students learned that the sun gives light, and that there are many different forms of light. So, we used a flashlight on the wall, and began playing with light, by making shadow puppets.

We went across the street to the shrine, where Brent and Liz introduced the activity to the students. We were now going to use sunlight to trace fun and interesting things!

Children were put together in pairs to help each other old an object of their choice, while the other student traces the shadow. They also learned the importance of team work!

Tracing our own shadow was a lot of fun too!!!

The students had a lot of fun, and learned a lot too in the process. Everyones tracings looked
