Zebras @

This month we learned about snails and how they can make slime! We talked to the Zebras all about snails and how they are neither boy nor girl, but both! Also we learned that they like dark places. Then we made snail slime!

We used cornstarch and water to make our slime! Nice and Easy!

First, we need to put the cornstarch into zip lock bags. We measured it out and put it in so carefully.

After we chose our colour and added water, we started to mix it up inside the bag.

We wonder what it feels like! We put our hands inside the bags and tried to pick up the slime. It stuck to our fingers!

When the water evaporates, it gets harder and harder. When we touch it it is hard but if we let it go it melts off our hands! It is pretty weird and cool.

Monkeys @

Great Big Bus Adventure!

What’s more fun than a bus full of Monkeys? Nothing! A bus full of Monkeys is the best thing you could ever have, and so, we picked up our wooden coins, and went to the Bus Tickets Office! The man at the shop was really loud and scary when he said ‘WELCOME TO MY STORE!!!!’ but the Monkeys asked him to say it in a nice voice, and then he wasn’t scary any more.

Now that the man at the store was friendly and not using a monster voice, the Monkeys could all buy their bus ticket!
“Welcome to my store!”
“I want to buy a ticket please”
“Here you are!”
“Thank you!”
It was very nice, but sometimes the man forgot, and used another monster voice, and the Monkeys reminded him to speak nicely.

「Can I buy a bus ticket please?」

With our bus hats happily on our heads, and tickets in hand, the Monkeys were ready to board the bus! “Are you ready? Show me your tickets! Okay! Let’s go!!!”

The bus driver took our tickets as we got on the bus. Eric didn’t have a ticket! He did have a bus pass for Takatsuki City Bus though, and the bus driver said that was okay. Phew!

Driving through West Takatsuki and Ibaraki was so much fun! The Monkeys looked out the windows and saw lots of important places around town! We saw a Post Office, a Police Box, factories and grocery stores too! We saw big houses, little houses, and very big apartment complexes. As we drove past the train tracks, a train went past, which was fun to see!

Having Fun Learning With Insects

This month has been a really fun month learning about all the types of insects!
But that is not all we have been learning. Children were put into groups, and the classroom was divided into 3 Workstations. Each group would spend time at a workstation, and then move to the next when finished. We had a lot of fun!

First, the students were given directions on what to do for each special table.
We reviewed the life cycles of insects, and we learned what syllables are!

The first table had the students look at the picture, and read the words. They had to count how many syllables were in the word, and put the picture in the right category of 1,2 or 3 syllables. They did a great job, and had a lot of fun clapping and reading the word to count the syllables!

Here, students had cards of Butterfly, Ant, Bee and Spider. They had to put the puzzle together, and to put the life cycle cards in the correct category! This was a great way to review our lessons on insect life cycles!

Children were given a random amount of colored toy bugs, where they had to put them in the correct colored category, and count each group, and write down the number in the colored section. This helped build their confidence in counting and categorizing.

Students had a lot of fun doing these workshops! KA will be doing a lot more of these fun and educational activities through out the months!

Geckos @

What is the Gecko class doing?

Cindy and Eri squirted shaving cream in the centre of the table, and we all had lots of fun spreading it out on the table. Ite felt cold and gooey.

We decided to change colours, and added some purple finger paint to our table. We drew patterns and shapes.

It was a lot of fun squishing the messy shaving cream between our fingers and hands!

Next we added a little bit of orange paint to see what would happen. Wow! What a mess! Our teachers wrote our names on the table, and we traced over all the letters.

We drew pictures with our fingers, knuckles and finger nails. It was fun trying to come up with new ways to draw.
The best part was being able to wipe it off, and start a new picture.

Using shaving cream is a great pre-writing activity. It is safe and non-toxic, and is easily washed off hair, fingers, smocks and tables. Children can practice forming letters, and can rub off their work and start again.

Bears @

The Bears class did an awesome job at making butterflies out of pom poms, pipe cleaner, and hanagami.
First we folded the hanagami to form the wings, then we used thread and needles to attach the pom poms together.

Bears

The Bears were very careful to not poke themselves except their teacher.

Ouch!

We finished our butterflies by attaching them to chopsticks for us to hold them.

"Which color should I choose?"

"How do I fold the hanagami?"

"Careful not to poke yourself!"

"We're finished!"
