Movers - Senri Yamada School-

For a recent project at the end of a unit, the Movers made a map of their neighborhood. This was exciting for the children because it was a chance to use a lot of new vocabulary they had learned over units 13 & 14.

First, the children worked together to think about places that are important in a community. As they came up with a list of places, I asked them to explain why they thought each one was important. Once the list was finished, they began drawing and labeling the places on their map.

After they had finished, each child showed their map to the rest of the class and talked about the places they had drawn on their map. The children enjoyed seeing each other's maps! They asked questions about their friends' maps and compared them to their own.
