Monkey Star Craft!
We wanted to make a multi-stage craft that made use of numerous skills and combined them into a fun and long lasting craft the children would be happy and proud of for a very long time. We started with simple materials, like wooden tongue depressors and school glue, and encouraged the students to try and follow simple patterns.
With minimal guidance, the children could make pretty good stars out of the wood sticks. Then we set everything aside with clothes pins to hold them together, so they could dry!
The next stage was probably the childrens favorite, painting!
Being able to choose between yellow, blue, and pink, the children could start to show their own creativity and color choices! We painted both sides and set them aside to dry, and get ready for stage 3 in the star craft.
Using glitter glue pens, with the tips cut short so small hands could more easily squeeze out the glitter glue, the children put glitter dots, smears, and waves all over each side of their star! Since glitter glue is quite sticky and messy, we had to do each side on different days, so they could dry properly. The final products, though, are really wonderful, and we’re all very happy with how the Monkey Star projects turned out.
