Summer in Japan wouldn't be the same without the distinctive ring of the cicada.
Most adults find these large insects grotesque but children are fascinated by them.
In Tigers class we learned about cicadas and practiced our writing skills by filling in a worksheet about the parts of a cicada's body.

Some vocabulary was familiar but other words such as thorax, compound eyes, and antennae were new for everyone.
The children created a sentence to describe the life cycle of a cicada.
In the afternoon the Tigers continued their study of bugs in Learning Stations by using the insect identification center and making their own out of Legos.
