Dumpling!

After we learned about why Moon Viewing was an important tradition, we wanted to celebrate Moon Viewing this month by making yummy dumplings!
We started by adding flour in a bowl, and preparing the tables with plastic wrap.
After washing our hands, we were ready to begin!

We talked about mud this month, and how water needs to be added to dirt to make it sticky and slimy. So this was helpful to understand that we needed to now add water to the flour so that it begins dough.

Mush mush mush! We had fun mixing the dough together with our hands and getting it ready to make balls. We added more water to make it more doughy and we all took turns mixing it together!

We started rolling the balls into medium sizes and discussing the texture and showing each other how to roll them nicely. We talked about what will happen to the dough balls once they are brought up to the kitchen, and how they are going to make the dumplings.

KA was so happy to see all the dough balls we rolled and piled up in the bin, ready to be taken up stairs and boiled for our lunch time dumplings!
Lunch time, we enjoyed many of them and we talked about how we will observe the moon and think about the farmers who, every year, give us all the food we eat.
Thanks farmers!
自分が作ったお団子は、また一段と美味しく感じるようで、子ども達は『It's so yummy!!』『I made this!』

What’s Happening in Frogs

Hello again parents and friends. This is the frogs class teacher, Gabi, here to give you some update about of some of the activities the students have been enjoying.

Most days we get a chance to stretch our legs and play in the park. It’s a perfect time for the children to get in touch with nature. Here the children are watering the plants in the garden. Some students walk up to the teachers with a watering can and ask, “water, please.” They then proceed to lavish care on the plants. These are some of the plants the older students planted.

At least once a week we meet the Rabbits in the gym. Shota leads an activity that requires running, and finishes with a circuit course. Here we have a ramp, a bridge to crawl under, a jumping box, and barriers to cross. Each week there is a different circuit that focuses on the children’s gross motor development, but the most important thing is that the kids LOVE it!

Daisuke joins us once a month to lead creative movement activities. Here, our classes stepped outside, got into a hoop, walked, ran, drove, rolled, sat in, and moved with hoops. That was an exciting day.
Those are just a few of the things we’ve been up to lately. Next time I hope to show some of the Fall/October themed activities we’re up to.

Geckos

Circle Time with Teddy!!!

On October 5th, while KA and KB were away, the younger classes had a Teddy Bears’ Picnic, with each child bringing along their favourite teddy bear or stuffed toys – in Geckos we were “visited by” teddy bears, dinosaurs, sheep, chipmunks, monkeys, pandas, cats, and a koala! Eri and Jacki saw a very different side to each child, as they shared their favourite toys with us, and displayed their powers of observation and ability to recall information by helping Teddy navigate the classroom and the daily routine.

Our visiting friends sat with us during circle time, and the Geckos showed Teddy how we sit during circle time and listen quietly to stories, creating a very different atmosphere indeed! The Geckos were terribly excited, singing in extra loud voices and all children joining in the songs and dances.

There were some times where Teddy was required to mind the chairs and sit quietly, and the Geckos became almost like parents as they encouraged their friends sit nicely and wait!

Their attention and care of Teddy did not wane during the day, with the children sitting on their cushions with Teddy on their laps, listening attentively to the final story of the day with Eri. The class helper chose “Do you want to be my friend?”, one of the most popular books in this class

The geckos will no doubt always remember this day as the first time they brought their teddy bears to school, and it is a wonderful memory indeed. We hope that the teddies and other stuffed toys are included in as many activities at home too!

Zebras

New Toys!

Everyone worked so hard at the Summer Festival in August! Thank you to all the parents who helped, we really couldn’t have done it without you! The Zebras face painting and photo booth meant that we could buy new toys for our classroom.

What’s in the box? We talked about how hard everyone worked so we could have new presents. The Zebras are so curious to see what is in the box but first we played a guessing game. `What do you think is in the box?` `I think it is dolls/sticks/blocks, etc`. Everyone had a turn at guessing!

Yay! We have brand new dolls!

Wow, we have 3 dolls, a tricycle, a pram, a doctor set and so many clothes!

A picture of all our new toys. With the dolls and doctor set we also have our own origami paper, cool new toys called `wammy!` and even some water paints for special craft times!

We are so happy! We will share so nicely!

We love the Wammy, we can make so many things like clothing, bracelets, and even balls!

We really love playing with the doll and doctor sets – and we really are great at sharing! Thank you everyone again for your help and making us so happy!

Rabbits

New Toys and Caterpillar Craft !!

The parents and teachers of the Rabbits class worked very hard for the Summer Festival this year, and we were able to buy some great new toys for our classroom with the profits. We bought a lovely round wooden table to have "picnics" on, and a fabulous wooden train set with lots of accessories. The children have been playing with them every day, and are not only enjoying them very much, but getting better and better at sharing, too !! Thank you to everybody who supported our booth at the Festival.

One of the insect crafts we did last month was making Caterpillars. First we cut some potatoes in half and dipped them in green paint. Then we stamped them many times on light green paper to make caterpillar bodies. Next we made their heads by sticking on eyes, antennas and drawing mouths. We had a lot of fun making them and think they are really cute !!
