Blog post by Kylee.
KB Lions welcome Autumn
!

Autumn has finally arrived, bringing cooler weather and beautiful color-changing leaves. KB celebrated by making our own dumplings. Kylee helped us add water nicely to the powder, and then we all got messy as we mixed the dumpling dough with our friends.

We all got to roll our dough into small dumplings to boil. Kylee showed us what size was just right! We helped our friends by sharing dough and taking turns rolling the dumplings to make them smooth and round.

We all got to eat our delicious dumpling with our lunch! We put a sweet powder over them and ate until our bellies were stuffed full! Many of us had second helpings because they were so delicious.

Field Trip and Sleepover Memories

KB went with KA to a farm where we dug up many sweet potatoes! We worked so hard digging in the soil, and found so many sweet potatoes to fill our baskets. The farmers were so nice and helped turn the soil to make it easier for us to dig.

KB then went to Rurikei for our own special sleepover. We enjoyed a campfire the first night. We all got our own glow sticks, sang in big voices with Yukiko and Kylee, and enjoyed watching the large fire and fireworks that the staff had worked so hard to set up for us!

We got to enjoy a lot of outside play where we could be close to nature. One of our favorite things to do was climb the small rocks near Rurike! We were a little afraid at first, but many of us managed to get all the way to the very top!

Before we went home, KB went on a hike in the woods and looked for many insects and small animals. The hike was a challenge, but we all made it together! Here we are giving our best smiles after our big hike in the woods!

Newspaper Costume Party!

In the Monkeys classroom, in celebration of Halloween and the fun of dressing up in costumes, we took newspapers and created costumes! The children tore, folded, taped, and asked teachers to help make bracelets, crowns, capes, and paper hero armor!!

Everyone waited patiently in line so they could get a new costume piece, and when one child asked for something new and different, a LOT of children also wanted the new, fun, costume piece too!

The children all loved their costumes! They posed like heroes, admired each others unique costumes, and happily grouped up for pictures!

Happily wearing our fun newspaper costumes, we then enjoyed the birthday party! All of the other classes thought our costumes were the best!

Dumpling!

After we learned about why Moon Viewing was an important tradition, we wanted to celebrate Moon Viewing this month by making yummy dumplings!
We started by adding flour in a bowl, and preparing the tables with plastic wrap.
After washing our hands, we were ready to begin!

We talked about mud this month, and how water needs to be added to dirt to make it sticky and slimy. So this was helpful to understand that we needed to now add water to the flour so that it begins dough.

Mush mush mush! We had fun mixing the dough together with our hands and getting it ready to make balls. We added more water to make it more doughy and we all took turns mixing it together!

We started rolling the balls into medium sizes and discussing the texture and showing each other how to roll them nicely. We talked about what will happen to the dough balls once they are brought up to the kitchen, and how they are going to make the dumplings.

KA was so happy to see all the dough balls we rolled and piled up in the bin, ready to be taken up stairs and boiled for our lunch time dumplings!
Lunch time, we enjoyed many of them and we talked about how we will observe the moon and think about the farmers who, every year, give us all the food we eat.
Thanks farmers!
自分が作ったお団子は、また一段と美味しく感じるようで、子ども達は『It's so yummy!!』『I made this!』

What’s Happening in Frogs

Hello again parents and friends. This is the frogs class teacher, Gabi, here to give you some update about of some of the activities the students have been enjoying.

Most days we get a chance to stretch our legs and play in the park. It’s a perfect time for the children to get in touch with nature. Here the children are watering the plants in the garden. Some students walk up to the teachers with a watering can and ask, “water, please.” They then proceed to lavish care on the plants. These are some of the plants the older students planted.

At least once a week we meet the Rabbits in the gym. Shota leads an activity that requires running, and finishes with a circuit course. Here we have a ramp, a bridge to crawl under, a jumping box, and barriers to cross. Each week there is a different circuit that focuses on the children’s gross motor development, but the most important thing is that the kids LOVE it!

Daisuke joins us once a month to lead creative movement activities. Here, our classes stepped outside, got into a hoop, walked, ran, drove, rolled, sat in, and moved with hoops. That was an exciting day.
Those are just a few of the things we’ve been up to lately. Next time I hope to show some of the Fall/October themed activities we’re up to.
